Obama Declares June LGBT Pride Month
June as lesbian, gay, bisexual & transgender month.
"The story of America's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual &
Transgender (LGBT) community is the story of our
fathers & sons, our mothers & daughters & our friends
& neighbors who continue the task of making our
country a more perfect Union," Obama states.
Speaking of unions, not a mention was made about
gay marriage or the fact that same-gender couples are
denied the 1,138 federal rights & protections of marriage.
Obama does say that "Last December, I was proud to sign
the repeal of the discriminatory "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"
policy.” However the policy is still in effect & nothing was
mentioned about Congress attempting to delay the repeal
of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (DADT) & ending the “Defense
of Marriage Act” (DOMA) by attaching it to the National
Defense Authorization Act. It would be nice to see some
positive strides made by the federal government for Pride.
The words are a bit worn-out. (Read the full doc below)
