GLAD Celebrates End of DOMA

By Charlotte Robinson, June 27, 2013

Now that the U.S. Supreme Court has struck down the so-called Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) our LGBT community is celebrating throughout America. Tonight in Boston GLAD (Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders) the architects of gay marriage in this country are holding a DOMA Victory Party at Lir 903 Boylston St, Boston, MA from 6P until 8:30P. There will be complimentary hors d'oeuvres & a cash bar. Join our LGBT community & allies as we gather to celebrate this historic victory. Lee Swislow, GLAD's Executive Director will talk about the impact of the Supreme Court's decision, GLAD's strategic commitment to full marriage recognition & the next steps in our ongoing fight for full equal justice under law for the entire LGBT community. Swislow stated, “In two momentous victories, the U.S. Supreme Court has struck down Section 3 of the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) & opened the door for marriage equality to return to California! With the stain of DOMA gone, married couples & their families now stand before their federal government as equals. I am so proud of the work GLAD has done for more than a decade to get us to this day - from our landmark Goodridge victory in Massachusetts that first brought marriage equality to the U.S., to our Gill & Pedersen cases that laid the groundwork for today's ruling against DOMA. The Supreme Court affirmed today what you & I have always known - there should be no gay exception in how the federal government treats marriages. We knew this day would come. We knew we had truth & justice on our side. I am so grateful for the support you have provided every step of the way.” So Come OUT & Celebrate Tonight!
