Bill Clinton Supports Gay Marriage (Video)

It's so predictable when a statesman like Bill Clinton comes out for gay marriage after signing into law the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) September 21, 1996. Thirteen years of hardship has been inflicted on our LGBT community & their families by the unconstitutionality of this legislation. Now he tells CNN's Anderson Cooper in this video that he thinks gay marriage & gay adoption is ok. However he still thinks that it should be a state to state issue. The question I wish Cooper asked was now that gay marriage has passed in 6 states, what about our federal rights & protections for our legally married LGBT families?

Trans-Inclusive ENDA in the US House...:)

Update: Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin's ENDA Testimony. The National Gay & Lesbian Task Force Action Fund submitted testimony to the U.S. House Committee on Education & Labor that spotlights the crucial need for passage of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which would prohibit workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation & gender identity. Task Force testimony includes preliminary data from a new groundbreaking survey on discrimination against transgender people in the United States. Data from this large-scale, first- of-its-kind survey show that discrimination in employment against transgender people is a nearly universal experience: 97 percent of the respondents reported being mistreated or harassed at work & nearly half (47 percent) said they had lost their jobs, were denied a promotion, or denied a job as a direct result of being transgender. The Task Force is partnering with the National Center for Transgender Equality on the survey.

Maine to Vote on Gay Marriage....

Update: 11/4/09 Gay Marriage defeated on Maine's ballot
referendum. Audio w/ GLAD's Lee Swislow:
OUTTAKE VOICES™
When will Americans learn that it's wrong to vote on basic civil rights?? Governor John Baldacci of Maine has signed a measure putting the state's gay marriage law up for a vote in November. Gay marriage opponents needed at least 55,087 signatures of registered voters for the so-called People's Veto & they turned in nearly 100,000 signatures. In May, Maine became the 5th state to allow gay marriage. The gay marriage law was supposed to go into effect this month, but it was put on hold while the secretary of state's office validated the number of signatures. "I fully support this legislation...but I also have a constitutional obligation to set the date for the election once the secretary of state has certified that enough signatures have been submitted," Baldacci said...... Jesse Connolly, campaign manager for NO on 1/Protect Maine Equality said, "Theirs is a cynical, pay-for-every-signature approach that doesn't reflect the homegrown values of our state." Gay Ally Martha Coakley for Senator....

1/20/10 UPDATE: Wake Up America, The Dems Need a Plan
Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley, a fierce LGBT ally has picked up nomination papers to run for the Senate seat vacated by the death of Sen. Ted Kennedy. This places one of our state's biggest advocates for LGBT rights & herself somewhat of a national LGBT hero for filing a federal lawsuit challenging the Defense of Marriage Act, (DOMA) to become the 100th member of the Senate. The primary election for Kennedy's U.S. Senate seat will be held on Dec. 8, with a general election scheduled for Jan, 19, 2010. Updates to Come....:)
Listen to audio interview about Coakley's DOMA lawsuit w/ Arline Isaacson, Co Chair of the Massachusetts Gay & Lesbian Political Caucus: @ OUTTAKE VOICES™
In July 2009, Coakley filed a lawsuit against the U.S. government challenging the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). In the lawsuit, Coakley said that DOMA undermined states' efforts to recognize marriages between gay couples. "Our families, our communities & even our economy have seen the many important benefits that have come from recognizing equal marriage rights & frankly, no downside," Coakley said. "However, we have also seen how many of our married residents & their families are being hurt by a discriminatory, unprecedented & unconstitutional law." Coakley has to gather 10,000 signatures in the next five weeks to qualify for the ballot. When it comes to LGBT rights & working
on behalf of LGBT constituents, she's certainly on par with the legacy of Senator Edward M. Kennedy.....:)
