John Lennon Slain 30 Years Ago '10

By Charlotte Robinson, December 08, 2009
On December 8th 1980 I was awaken by a phone call from my brother Paul that John Lennon had been assassination outside his apartment at the Dakota in New York City. At the time I was living on the Upper Eastside just across Central Park from where Lennon’s murder took place. Half asleep I remember saying ‘assassinated…how could that be?’ I quickly turned on the radio next to my bed to hear Lennon & McCartney music playing confirming the worst. The next day I dressed in leather & headed to the Dakota on my way to work at CBS News. The crowd had gathered & his music blared from a boom box. A producer at CBS later told me he lived across the street from the scene & had heard the shots. I had met John & Yoko on Madison Avenue the year before. We locked eyes as they approached & exchanged niceties. Thirty years later I can’t help think that it would be a better world if he were still with us.....

  1. Today, on this painful anniversary, please join me in remembering John with deep love and respect. Despite his short, 40 years of life, he gave so much to the world. The world was blessed with fortune to have known John. We continue to learn so much from him even today. John, I love you. 2010/12/8….
