Rachel Maddow Disputes Gay Marriage

By Charlotte Robinson, October 07, 2011
In a moment of ivory tower madness MSNBC host Rachel Maddow stated that winning marriage equality would threaten gay culture. She made the comment in the cover story of The Hollywood Reporter. This comes from a 38 year old who doesn’t have kids, is far from the horror that LGBT seniors face unable to collect their deceased spouse of 50 years federal rights, benefits & especially social security. What she should have talked about is that marriage should be a choice for everyone in this country. Once that happens then you can decide whether you are the marrying type. Marriage is a very serious decision. My partner & I have been together 14 years & live in Massachusetts but have not married. However, once the marriage equality passes on the federal level we’ll be the first in line. We understand where Maddow is coming from but she should be a little more careful with her words. Update to Come….:)

  1. I feel that gay people not being able to get married for generations, forever, meant that we came up with alternative ways of recognizing relationships. And I worry that if everybody has access to the same institutions that we lose the creativity of subcultures having to make it on their own. And I like gay culture. I’ve been with Susan Mikula for ten years. We know a lot of people who have gotten married but I don't think we feel any urgency about it.
