Ira Sachs Adds Marisa Tomei

By Charlotte Robinson, August 08, 2013
Oscar winner & fierce gay ally Marisa Tomei has joined the cast of director Ira Sachs’s (Keep the Lights On) newest feature “Love Is Strange”. She joins John Lithgow & Alfred Molina in the NYC indie film about a recently married gay couple’s forced separation that begins production in NYC this month. Tomei will play “Kate” a novelist married to Lithgow’s nephew who lets his uncle move in with them after he’s forced to sell his small apartment. Sachs stated, “Marisa brings an intelligence, warmth & graceful humor to everything she does. From our first meeting, it was clear that in her hands, the role of Kate would resonate deeply with audiences. She elevates all of us involved to be at our very best.” Tomei received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for “My Cousin Vinny” as well as nominations for "In the Bedroom" & "The Wrestler." Sachs is a producer of “Love Is Strange” along with Parts & Labor partners, Lars Knudsen & Jay Van Hoy (Beginners, Ain’t Them Bodies Saints), Lucas Joaquin (Keep the Lights On) & Jayne Baron Sherman (Kinky Boots & The Normal Heart on Broadway). Mauricio Zacharias is the co-screenwriter along with Sachs. Fortissimo Films is handling international sales, outside of US & Canada.
