There’s a must-see new art installation entitled the GoNightclubbing Video Lounge at New York University's Fales Library that runs now through May 30th. It’s the recreation of the original Danceteria Video Lounge that was the club to be seen at in the late 70s & early '80s. The lounge installation is the result of NYU's purchase of the GoNightclubbing Archive from video artists & Danceteria Video Lounge founders Emily Armstrong & Pat Ivers for the Fales Library's Downtown Collection. Drawing from Armstrong & Ivers's work at Danceteria as well as their weekly cable TV show Nightclubbing, the archive includes video of some of the rarest performances & interviews with artists & musicians of this trendy era. Armstrong & Ivers have selected eight stills from videos included in the GoNightclubbing Video Lounge addressing the importance of the various figures to the downtown scene. Pat Ivers stated, “If you ever wished you could have been at the birth of Nightlife cool, drop by our GoNightclubbing Video Lounge. It's a reimagining of our original design at the notorious original up all night completely illegal Danceteria installation, where everyone from the Talking Heads to Iggy Pop relaxed in our living room settings to enjoy videos of downtown superstars like The Cramps, John Sex, Keith Haring & many more!” On April 10th there will be a special event “Behind The Lens” A Conversation with Emily Armstrong & Pat Ivers at the Fales Library & Special Collections 70 Washington Square South on the 3rd floor in NYC. Poet Michael Parker will also be present & Richard Boch moderator. A reception follows in the GoNightclubbing Video Lounge.

At the height of Danceteria in the 1980’s one thing that was so ahead of its time was that gender didn’t mater. LGBT & straights partied together without barriers.
