ArtPoint Annual Gala Event

By Charlotte Robinson, February 06, 2015
In San Francisco the annual ArtPoint Gala is celebrating graffiti artist & gay activist Keith Haring on February 7th. Haring first gained fame in the 1980s in NYC for his drawings throughout the NYC subway system & other public spaces featuring his own unique graffiti-styled imagery. Soon his art & its messages promoting love for each other & for our planet were recognized around the world. Haring believed “Art is for Everyone.” I met Keith in the late 1980’s at the Palladium Night Club in NYC. He was an amazingly sweet person. It just was after he was diagnosed with AIDS. Haring died on Friday February 16, 1990 of AIDS related complications. ArtPoint for February the “month of love” is celebrating the life & work of gay pop icon Keith Haring in the exhibition entitled Keith Haring: The Political Line with their gala Saturday, February 7th from 8P to Midnight at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the de Young in Golden Gate Park & the Legion of Honor in Lincoln Park. Guests will enjoy a live performance by Tainted Love - the best of the 80s, live, music by DJ Matt Haze, a thematic photo booth by Jonathan Saunders & more! The Herbst Special Exhibition Galleries will be open to all for late-night viewing. Specialty cocktails & classic American appetizers will be served. VIP tickets include tours of The Political Line, a pre-party from 7P to 8P with a champagne toast, an expanded menu & all-night access to a deluxe lounge.
