Boston Gay Men’s Chorus Holiday

By Charlotte Robinson, November 16, 2015
Boston Gay Men’s Chorus is presenting Ho Ho Ho a holiday concert of traditional carols, including a fabulous new work by the composer Laura Karpman & the world premiere of Forbidden Holiday, a revue of sassy send-ups of seasonal standards from the creator of the Off-Broadway sensation Forbidden Broadway. Performances take place at New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall on Dec. 13th, 19th, 20th & 21st. Reuben M. Reynolds, III. BGMC Music Director stated, “Boston Gay Men’s Chorus holiday concerts are beloved for blending traditional Christmas carols & Hanukkah music with over-the-top numbers, reflecting both the contemplative spirit & joyousness of the season. Audiences will be treated to stirring renditions of ‘Son of Maria’ & ‘In Dulci Jubilo’ along with the jolly frivolity of tunes like ‘The Christmas Can-Can’ & ‘Pink Christmas.’” Ho Ho Ho will showcase the world premiere of Forbidden Holiday by local composer Gerard Alessandri, the openly gay creator of Forbidden Broadway, an award-winning Off-Broadway roast of current Broadway musicals. Commissioned by BGMC, Forbidden Holiday puts a comedic spin on songs from musicals like “White Christmas” & “Fiddler on the Roof” in ways only BGMC can. Ho Ho Ho will also feature a performance of “Loving Tender Present,” a new work by composer Laura Karpman, an Emmy winner & out lesbian who has scored numerous feature films and TV shows. Craig Coogan, Executive Director of the Boston Gay Men’s Chorus concluded, “We’re thrilled to be performing the works of such talented composers as Laura Karpman & Gerard Alessandri, which allow us to showcase BGMC’s musical range. Also, it’s not easy to find pink Santa suits in men’s sizes, let alone can-can skirts. See why our patrons tell us that ‘BGMC puts the Merry into Christmas’.”
