The Bella Abzug Park located between West 34th & West 36th Streets, mid-block between 10th & 11th Avenues is now officially open. The park named after Congresswoman Bella Abzug who served in the U.S. House of Representatives from New York's 20th district from January 3, 1973 to January 3, 1977, will host sculpture exhibitions, a film festival, farmers market, summer film series, children's events, sponsors seasonal fitness & wellness events. All are free & open to the public. Liz Abzug, Founder & President of the Bella Abzug Leadership Institute stated, “Today at the opening ceremony of the 3 acre brand new Bella Abzug Park right in the middle of the Hudson Yards, West Side of Manhattan - the largest & multi billion dollar residential, retail & commercial new community in NYC & in the US today. A huge thank you to former Deputy Mayor Alicia Glen whose vision this was & to my dear friend Borough President Gale Brewer who led the charge of all of the West side electeds’ to support the Park almost all who were there to celebrate with us today. The Hudson Yards Hell’s Kitchen Alliance Bid, NYC Parks Commissioner Silver & yes, the park is located right in the middle of what was her Congressional District. Beautiful fountains, flowers, trees, sitting areas a food place, cafe tables & chairs, kids playground & Man, is this hard to believe or what? Think even Bella would be overwhelmed!!! Gotta say what an incredible tribute to mom & now for the parties and protests there!!” Bella Abzug Park is a shared public space provided for the enjoyment & recreation of the community.
