This must-see play about feminist icon Gloria Steinem & the women she partnered with for over five decades in their fight for equality is being presented by the American Repertory Theater at the Loeb Drama Center in Cambridge, MA now through March 1st. The play is a collaboration between Gloria Steinem & Tony Award-nominee playwright Emily Mann (Having Our Say) & directed by the visionary Tony Award-winning Diane Paulus (Waitress, Pippin). Patricia Kalember brilliantly stars in the title role as Gloria Steinem with an ensemble of players including Patrena Murray, Joanna Glushak, Gabrielle Beckford, Rachel Cognata, Eunice Wong, Erika Stone & Brenda Withers. The play is an intimate feminist retrospect set in the round to create a sense of talking circles effectively relaying the message that as far as women have advanced since gaining the right to vote 100 years ago we really haven’t achieved anywhere near as much as we should have. If we are going to win the fight over inequalities we must come out & reignite the conversations amongst ourselves until our voices are heard & change comes about. As Gloria Steinem stated, “Every social justice movement that I know of has come out of people sitting in small groups, telling their life stories & discovering that other people have shared similar experiences.” Could this work under the regime of Trump? Unless we try we will never know. Gloria: A Life is being presented in association with the McCarter Theatre Center & by special arrangement with Daryl Roth. Tickets start at $25.
