Superior Court Rules Against Target

Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Barton ruled that Target
did not present enough evidence to show Canvass for
a Cause volunteers have been harassing its customers.
Barton also says the store entrances are considered a
public forum under California law. The Minnesota
based retail giant had asked the court for a temporary
injunction to stop the volunteers from collecting
signatures & donations in support of gay marriage.
Barton advised the San Diego group to be respectful
when they canvas & not to impede the flow of traffic.
Canvass for a Cause director Tres Watson called the
ruling a victory for not only his organization, but for
free speech. The ruling by Judge Barton comes after
Lady Gaga ended her deal with Target over its lack
of support for gay rights. Target is expected to appeal
the ruling in coming days. Updates to Come…:)

The Gay Affairs of Malcolm X

Just days after Mahatma Gandhi was outed as being
bisexual a new book published by Columbia University
historian Manning Marable suggests that Malcolm X
had gay relationships with white men. "Malcolm X:
A Life of Reinvention" also claims that one of the men
who assassinated Malcolm X escaped justice & is alive.
The African-American minister was a legendary public
speaker & human rights activist before being gunned
down on stage in New York in 1965. The claims re-ignites
opinions voiced by gay activist Peter Tatchell almost 20
ago which claimed Malcolm X was bisexual.
On April 1, 2011 Dr. Manning Marable died.

Gay Justice Lenk High Court Choice

Well we’ve done it again in Massachusetts. If confirmed
by the Governor’s Council Barbara Lenk’s appointment
would set a precedent for the state’s highest court. Not
only is Justice Lenk openly gay, she legally married her
partner after the court’s landmark decision to legalize
gay marriage in the commonwealth in 2004 making Lenk
the first openly gay person to sit on the SJC’s bench.
“I like the idea of firsts, as you know, & I’m proud of this
one. But, first and foremost, this is a very well-prepared,
highly qualified candidate,” said Governor Patrick during
the press conference on Lenk’s nomination. Lenk said many
of the commonwealth’s legislative decisions have affected
her life as a citizen of Massachusetts, not only the Goodridge
decision. “That’s the awesome power of the law, it affects
human lives,” she said. Lenk holds a Ph.D. in philosophy
from Yale University & a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
Her law specialization focused on civil litigation & First
Amendment matters. In 1993, she was appointed to the
Superior Court and served there until she was appointed
to the Appeals Court in 1995. Update to Come...:)

Bill Maher has taken on Obama & the Democratics for not
being able to pass gay marriage in America even though
more than a majority of people support it for the first time.
He pointed out the new ABC poll that only 53% of people
support gay marriage which means that "47% of Americans
are assholes." Maher stated, "Now that a Cheney, a McCain
& a Bush have come out to support gay marriage, it's your
turn, Obama.” Mahr also gave credit for changing opinions
to television "which in the last five years has gotten gayer
than the British navy. If there's one thing I know about
Americans is that if they see something on TV it makes it ok.”
We agree with Bill Maher. Education is extremely important
& television is a crucial tool. Let's see what Hollywood can
provide for the 2011 Fall Season. Updates to Come...:)

Rep Tammy Baldwin on LGBT Health Report

Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) congratulated
the National Academies’ Institute of Medicine (IOM) on
its new report, “The Health of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, &
Transgender People: Building a Foundation for Better
Understanding.” It's the first substantial federal review
of the health status of LGBT people in the U.S. & a vital
first step toward eliminating LGBT health inequalities.
The IOM & the National Institutes of Health typically
look at existing medical research & identify gaps in
research that need to be filled. In their work to assess the
health of LGBT Americans, the IOM report finds that there
simply isn’t enough basic research to identify gaps. Its first
recommendation, one that Baldwin has long advocated, is
to start collecting data on LGBT Americans in order to begin
identifying & addressing LGBT health disparities. Baldwin
will reintroduce the Ending LGBT Health Disparities Act,
building on the IOM report’s recommendations.
