“A Marine Story” Depicts DADT Disparity

By Charlotte Robinson, May 09, 2011
The Boston LGBT Film Fest presented “A Marine
Story” starring Dreya Weber at the Brattle Theatre in
Cambridge. With the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”
still in flux this film is an important & honest look at
how the policy has effected gays & lesbians in the
military. The movie is about when a decorated female
Marine officer unexpectedly returns home from the
war she’s recruited to help a troubled young woman
prepare for boot camp. As Alex (Weber) whips Saffron
(out actress Paris Pickard), into shape during the long,
hot summer their relationship develops & the Corps
threatens the future for both of them.
Writer/director
Ned Farr & Producer JD Disalvatore, score another hit
with this heartfelt commentary exploring the effect of
“Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” beyond politics by showing
an intimately personal side of this issue.

  1. We are proud to be part of the Boston LGBT Film Festival. The specific issue of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” every single American should have been up in arms because it cost the military hundreds of millions of dollars in loss soldiers training in fees to keep the policy going. Not to mention the loss of skilled personnel. Thank goodness it has been repealed, then the implementation will be another question but these issues of discrimination effect us all.
