UPDATE: Congrats To Delaware For Passing Gay Marriage 12-9!!
Governor Jack Markell Has Signed The Bill Making Delaware #11!!
Delaware lawmakers will address a gay marriage bill on Tuesday May 7th which could make Delaware the 11th state to pass marriage equality for gay & lesbian couples. The vote is scheduled for the state's Democrat-controlled Senate which will follow the General Assembly's passage of the bill a few weeks ago. Governor Jack Markell, an outspoken supporter of gay marriage has vowed to sign the bill into law when it passes the Senate. The vote follows the momentum of victories for gay marriage over the pass year. Last Friday Rhode Island lawmakers gave final approval to a marriage bill that Governor Chafee quickly signed into law. This is the one-year anniversary of Vice President Joe Biden coming out for gay marriage which was followed by Obama finally evolving on marriage equality. Maine, Maryland & Washington state approved ballot measures legalizing gay marriage last November victoriously marking the first time voters in any state extended marriage rights to gay & lesbian couples in a popular vote. While we wait to hear how the U.S. Supreme Court will rule on the Defense of Marriage Act & Prop 8 in June, Massachusetts is gearing-up to celebrate nine years of marriage equality on May 17th. With Rhode Island passing gay marriage last week New England has become a marriage equality zone with Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut & Maine all passing marriage for gay & lesbian couples. New York, Iowa & Washington DC have all passed gay marriage as well.
