Boston Pride has announced that it is proudly co-sponsoring “Pride: 40 Years of Protest & Celebration” a joint exhibition between the Boston Center for Adult Education (BCAE) & The History Project. The exhibition will be open from May 15 through June 30, 2012 & will be free & open to the public from 9A-5P at the Boston Center for Adult Education, located on 122 Arlington Street, Boston. The pieces displayed in the exhibition showcase the immense cultural & political changes that have affected New England’s LGBT communities over the decades. Accompanying “Pride: 40 Years of Protest & Celebration” will be Fierce Pride: 1992, an exhibition of portraits taken during the 1992 Pride Celebration by Photographer Joel Benjamin. These never before exhibited portraits reflect the rich diversity of LGBT communities & the role of Pride in creating a safe space for self-expression. “We are excited to participate in furthering the understanding & appreciation of LGBT Pride history,” said Michael Bookman, Co- Chair of Boston Pride’s Human Rights & Education Committee. “Boston Pride strives to keep relevant how important sharing Pride still is & through the use of photographs & other works of art, this exhibit is a great & unique way to educate everyone about LGBT history. The opening celebration of Pride: 40 Years of Protest & Celebration will be held on Friday, May 18th from 6-8P & is themed, “Sip the Rainbow.” The event is being held at the Boston Center for Adult Education & will feature 3 complimentary cocktails.
