As we begin 2008, one of the most controversial issues is whether LGBT citizens should be granted equal rights, benefits & protections as heterosexual citizens. This is a 'no brainer'. Of course they should. On the Gay Marriage scene there is a misconception that Civil Unions provide the same protections as marriage. They do not. Civil Unions provide about one third of the protections of marriage. You probably heard that New Hampshire has been added to the few states that allow Civil Unions. Worldwide Civil Union ceremonies have been on the decline because the LGBT community wants the same protections as their hetero counterparts. We live in a country dedicated to the ideal that all citizens are created equal. What part of the word 'equal' don't they get? :)

The Trailer looks awesome. I just forwarded the link to several of my friends (gay and straight) to help express why I care so much about the gay marriage debate. I can't believe people in this nation are still pretending it doesn't matter.
Thanks meanjean. Keep spreading the word & link. Knowledge is power... :)
"What part of the word 'equal'
don't they get?"
I would like to see the top 3 Democrats address this issue. It's great to talk about human rights worldwide, but what about their fellow Americans being denied the same basic rights as their straight counterparts? I've written letters telling them how important this issue is, of course I didn't get a response. Do you remember a few months back when Mexican Americans marched about the immigration laws. I think we need to do something like that. Our voices aren't being heard.
The 3 Dems did address the issue on the Viacom/LOGO debate last August. All 3 said they were against gay marriage but for civil unions which provide about 1/3 the benefits of marriage. :( They're all playing this sort of cop-out that it's up to the states in accordance to DOMA.
