Jimmy Carter Ready for Gay President

It’s always so amazing how brave politicians are when they’re
not in office. Former President Jimmy Carter publicly stated
that America is ready for a gay president. The 86 year-old,
who served from 1977 to 1981 & was the recipient of the 2002
Nobel Peace Prize made the statement in a web-stream video
for socio-political website Big Think. Watch Video....

Homophobic HIV/AIDS PSA in NYC

Two of our favorite orgs, Gay Men's Health Crisis (GMHC), the
nation's oldest HIV/AIDS prevention, care & advocacy provider
& the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), the
nation's leading lesbian, gay, bisexual & transgender (LGBT)
media advocacy & anti-defamation organization have joined to
demand that the New York City Department of Health & Mental
Hygiene pull a sensationalistic & stigmatizing television public
service announcement aimed at gay & bisexual men.
The PSA which is intended to encourage condom usage among
gay & bisexual men, claims that those with HIV face a higher risk
of bone loss, dementia & anal cancer. While older adults living
with HIV may be at greater risk of these conditions, the PSA
creates a grim picture of what it is like to live with HIV that could
further stigmatize HIV/AIDS, as well as gay & bisexual men.

Gay Books Vandalized at Harvard

Harvard University police report they’re investigating vandalism to
about 40 books on lesbian & gay issues at a university library as a
hate crime. Security staff at Lamont Library said in a report filed
with campus police on Friday that it appeared someone poured
urine on the books on Nov. 24. An empty bottle was found nearby.
A police spokesman tells The Crimson student newspaper that all
the books were about lesbian, gay & same-gender marriage issues.
Library spokeswoman Beth Brainard says it took so long to report
the incident because staff wanted to assess the value of the books.
She says they were worth thousands of dollars & will be discarded.
Marco Chan, co-chairman of the Harvard College Queer Students
& Allies, called the incident "disconcerting." Updates to Come...

John Travolta Gay or Straight?

This is an old story being stirred up, probably innocently by
actress Carrie Fisher during an Advocate interview. Rumors
have circulated about Travolta for sometime especially recently
after his lawyers took legal action against website Gawker for
publishing a story making claims about his personal life. When
asked to list 10 things that "gay men should know about straight
women", one of Fisher's answers was: "We don't really care that
John Travolta is gay." Then of course there's the Church of
Scientology where Travolta & his family are members that
maintains a hard-line stance on homosexuality & believes in
"curing" people of their homosexuality. Critics of the church
claim the process is meant to keep celebrities in the closet & in
the church. A new book has also brought heavy fire from Travolta's
legal team as the author alleges to have direct knowledge of
Travolta leading a secret gay life.

After a roller coaster ride yesterday the Senate Republicans came
through in their predictable fashion & blocked the repeal of ‘Don’t
Ask Don’t Tell’. The push for repeal fell 3 votes short of the 60
needed to overcome a filibuster. Maine Republican Susan Collins
joined 54 Democrats & two independents in backing the repeal with
40 senators voting against including Massachusetts Senator Scott
Brown who reversed his decision revealing his true homophobic
self. This potentially dooms any chance for overturning the 17 year
old unconstitutional military policy in 2010. Updates to Come….
