July ends with a story on pop star Miley Cyrus inking
a tattoo of an equal sign on her wedding ring finger &
tweeting about it saying "All love is equal" in support
of gay marriage. As we enter into August it’s amazing
how our LGBT community advanced in the last weeks.
Gay Marriage became legal in New York which serves
as the game-changer for marriage equality. California
set a September 6th court date for hopefully the last
chapter on Prop 8 & the Senate held the first hearing
on "The Respect for Marriage Act" endorsed by Obama
which will repeal DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act).
“Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” was finally certified & will be
removed from military policy on September 20th when
our gay & lesbian service members can finally serve
openly & truthfully for the first time in US history.
The next step will be combating homophobia as the
2012 presidential election revs up & the GOP candidates
continue attacking our LGBT community. Let’s keep
turning their hateful agendas around & expose them
for the bullies they are as the summer heats up....:)

The Human Rights Campaign launched a national campaign “Demand Equality Face to Face” encouraging members and supporters to schedule meetings with their Senators and Representatives during the upcoming August recess, when most members hold events and meetings in their districts to hear directly from constituents.The campaign builds on the incredible progress over the past few weeks—the momentous victory for marriage equality in New York, the first-ever Congressional hearing on repealing the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and the President’s announcement of his support for the Respect for Marriage Act to repeal DOMA. In the national action alert, we’re urging supporters of equality to use this August to meet directly with your elected officials to discuss repeal of DOMA and employment non-discrimination.
