Equality Forum celebrating their 10th annual LGBT History Month has provided role models, teaches history, builds community to make an important civil rights statement about our LGBT community’s important contributions. Samuel Knight Professor of American History & Chair of the History Department, Yale University stated, “LGBT History Month sends an important message to our nation’s teachers, school boards, community leaders & youth about the vital importance of recognizing & exploring the role of gay, lesbian, bisexual & transgender people in American history.” The 2015 LGBT Icons being honored this year are: activist Jane Addams, solider Miriam Ben-Shalom, inaugural poet Richard Blanco, poet/performer Staceyann Chin, basketball player Jason Collins, transgender actress Laverne Cox, record producer Clive Davis, interior designer Elsie de Wolfe, author Samuel Delany, filmmaker Arthur Dong, educators Emery Hetrick & Damien Martin, rock star Mick Jagger, actress Angelina Jolie, US Vice President William Rufus King, comedian Jackie “Moms” Mabley, poet Edna St. Vincent Millay, Ugandan activist Frank Mugisha, gay pioneer Jack Nichols, politician Elaine Noble, educator & activist Antonia Pantoja, US Cabinet Member Frances Perkins, TV broadcaster Robin Roberts, Transgender native American Sahaykwisa, football player Michael Sam, transgender advocate Barbra Siperstein, singer Dusty Springfield, equality attorney Tom Stoddard, tennis champion William “Big Bill” Tilden II, performer Tim’m T. West, marriage equality hero Edie Windsor & marriage equality advocate Evan Wolfson.
