Hate Crime Rising Nationwide

By Charlotte Robinson, November 21, 2016
In Boston, Massachusetts there will be an anti-hate rally Monday November 21st at 11A at the State House following dozens of reports of hate crimes throughout the Commonwealth have been reported since the election. Boston Mayor Marty Walsh & Attorney General Maura Healey will be among those expected to attend. Since Healey set up a harassment hotline one week ago there have been more than 300 calls. The hotline was set up in response to increased reports of threatening behavior to minorities & women since the Nov. 8 election. More than 30 groups & organizations will be taking part in the rally. Across the nation, labor, civil rights & faith leaders & others called on President-elect Donald Trump to unequivocally denounce the hundreds of hate-fueled acts of harassment, vandalism, property destruction & assaults that have happened since his election. Lily Eskelsen Garcia, President of the National Education Association stated, “Educators are witnessing firsthand the hate speech & hostile acts inspired by Donald Trump’s rhetoric directed at our students. All students have a right to feel welcomed & valued in our schools & deserve safe learning environments. Trump must call for an end to the toxic rhetoric & violent incidents now & commit to the values that unite us: respect, kindness & dignity.” After Trump’s toxic tweets over the weekend attacking the cast of Hamilton & SNL indicating that unfortunately this is going to get a lot worse before it gets better.
