Charles Longcope Jr. 2025 Grants
By Charlotte Robinson, June 09, 2025
This year’s Charles S. Longcope Jr. Writers & Artists Grant recipients are Ipek Sahinler a doctoral candidate in comparative literature at the University of Texas at Austin, Keira Roberson a PhD candidate in history at Georgia State University & Emma O’Neill-Dietel a master’s student at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. The grants are presented by The Gay & Lesbian Review / Worldwide bimonthly magazine of history, culture & politics that targets an educated readership of LGBTQ people & their allies & publishes essays in a wide range of disciplines as well as reviews of books, movies & plays. Quinn Tahon Grant Administrator stated, “In our political climate, especially related to the current administration’s hostility towards LGBTQ & other vulnerable communities, supporting this kind of academic work feels more important than ever. Countless federal grants & other funding sources are being cut & it’s easy to see how these cuts target LGBTQ issues & that they are meant to harm our communities. In light of this, I feel especially proud that The G&LR is able to continue offering support to scholars who are determined to forge ahead with their work despite these obstacles.” Ipek Sahinler is an Assistant Instructor at the Department of Women’s & Gender Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. Keira Roberson is concluding her fourth year at Georgia State University. Emma O’Neill-Dietel a master’s student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is studying 20th century American social movements with a focus on gender & sexuality. The G&LR has become the place where the big debates about LGBTQ culture & politics are often played out.
