"Don't Ask Don't Tell" Gay Activists Arrested

Gay rights activists handcuffed themselves to the White House's
north gate Monday urging President Obama to repeal the ban on gays
& lesbians serving openly in the military under “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell”.
13 demonstrators organized by the GetEQUAL campaign for
gay rights; including nine veterans, a Catholic priest & other
advocates were arrested after shouting they were "proud to serve"
& vowing: "We will not disappear." Updates to Come…:)

"Don't Ask Don't Tell" Marches On...

With it becoming less & less likely that DADT will be repealed in
the lame duck session of Congress, The United States Supreme
Court has denied Log Cabin Republicans' request to reinstate a
world-wide injunction against 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell.' As a result,
servicemembers will continue to be investigated & discharged until
Log Cabin Republicans v. USA is under appeal. Arguments are due
to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in February.

Don't Ask Don't Tell & Veterans Day (Audio)

Veterans Day 2010 is just another reminder of the inequalities
facing our LGBT community in the military under “Don’t Ask,
Don’t Tell.” It's very questionable whether this policy will be
repealed in the lame duck session of Congress. In this exclusive
audio byte we asked Robins McGehee, Co-Chair of GetEQUAL
the grassroots LGBT org what her thoughts were about this outdated
policy that is inflicting hardships on our LGBT servicemembers &
their families. In federal district court Log Cabin Republicans filed
suit against "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" in 2004. The case went to trial
in Riverside, California in July of 2010 & Judge Virginia Phillips
ruled on September 9, 2010 that the policy violated the 1st & 5th
Amendments of the Constitution. On October 12, 2010 Judge Phillips
issued a worldwide, immediate & permanent injunction against
enforcement of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." For 8 days DADT was
dissolved without any incidents among the ranks in the military.
Then the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals granted the Obama
administration's request for a temporary stay of the injunction
against 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' pending further argument regarding
imposing a stay throughout the course of the appeal. Don't you think
a ceasefire should be imposed on LGBT military personnel until
DADT is repealed? Updates to Come…:)

Signs of Changing Times

As we wait & see if “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” is addressed during
the lame duck session in Washington this story should give our
LGBT community hope. Some military funeral protesters got a
taste of their own medicine Saturday. Residents of a small town
in Missouri decided to take matters into their own hands by
blocking the Westboro Baptist Church from posting its
"God Hates Fags" signs at a fallen soldier's funeral. Read More...

Fourth Openly Gay Member of Congress

Rhode Island Democrat David Cicilline has become the fourth
openly gay member of Congress winning the House seat vacated
by retiring Rep. Patrick Kennedy. Barney Frank of Massachusetts,
Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin & Jared Polis of Colorado also were
reelected to Congress.
In the US House the Dems lost control 183 to 239 so the GOP will have
their wish of replacing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The Senate
remains in the Dems hands 51 seats to 46. In California there’s good
news as Senator Barbara Boxer remains in office & Jerry Brown
becomes governor once again. Senate Majority leader Harry Reid beat
out Tea Party Republican Sharron Angle. Reid is supportive of LGBT
civil rights. Here in Massachusetts we were able to defeat all the GOP
candidates running remaining True Blue Dems. We’ll have more on
how the election will effect our LGBT community later this week.
