GLAAD to Honor Martin & Chenoweth

GLAAD, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation announced
it will honor Grammy Award-winning singer Ricky Martin & Emmy
& Tony Award-winning actress & singer Kristin Chenoweth at the
22nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards presented by RÖKK Vodka.
Martin will receive the Vito Russo Award at the New York award
ceremony on Saturday, March, 19, 2011 at the Marriott Marquis
Times Square. Chenoweth, will receive the Vanguard Award at
the Los Angeles event on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at the Westin
Bonaventure. GLAAD also announced that Andy Cohen, Bravo's
Senior Vice President of Original Programming & host of Watch
What Happens: Live will host the New York event. Additional
honorees & special guests will be announced soon. We'll be on
the Red Carpet reporting for OUTTAKE VOICES™ in NYC...:)

GLAAD MEDIA & LGBT People of Color

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD),
the nation's LGBT media advocacy & anti-defamation org
has launched its People of Color Media Training Institute as
a part of the organization's National People of Color Media
Initiative. This media program will bring diverse LGBT
voices & stories to Americans. The Media Training Institute,
funded by the Arcus Foundation & created specifically for
people of color who are LGBT or LGBT allies to develop
a group of passionate & visible leaders to speak in national
media outlets about issues that impact the lives of LGBT
people & their families. The Institute will consist of a 2 day,
advanced spokesperson training program in New York &
Los Angeles where GLAAD staff, leading journalists & key
media trainers will develop Institute participants in areas
of framing & messaging for on-camera & radio interviews.

Gay Marriage Hearing in Rhode Island

A hearing on a bill that would legalize gay marriage in Rhode
Island is set for this week at the state house. The House Judiciary
Committee is scheduled to hear testimony on the bill Wednesday.
A previous hearing on the bill was delayed due to the brutal weather
we're having in the northeast this winter. The legislation has been
introduced several times over the years but failed when it faced
opposition from previous Republican Governor Don Carcieri &
former legislative leaders. House Speaker Gordon Fox, who is
openly gay, has said gay marriage legislation is a priority for him
this year & the new Governor Lincoln Chafee is a strong supporter

Reps Call to Right DADT Wronged

U.S. Representatives Gwen Moore (D-Wis.), Barney Frank
(D-Mass.), Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.), Jared Polis (D-Colo.)
& David Cicilline (D-R.I.) wrote to the Secretaries of Defense
& Veterans Affairs to ensure that gays & lesbians military
discharged under “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” get the benefits they
earned. These letters come at a crucial time in the repeal process
as Secretary Gates has requested a plan – by tomorrow – that
moves repeal forward & recommends Department policy changes.
The letters ask Secretaries Gates & Shinseki to address the issue
of discharges in the repeal process. Some gay & lesbian service
members discharged under “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” or previous
policies were discharged in a way that may block access to health
care for veterans, education through the GI Bill & other benefits.

Was Mona Lisa a Drag Queen?

An expert has claimed to have unraveled the mystery behind
the famous Mona Lisa painting saying the model was a man &
Leonardo da Vinci's lover of possibly over 20 years. An Italian
art historian, Silvano Vinceti, believes the model for the "Mona
Lisa" was a man named Gian Giacomo Caprotti, better known
as Salai, a male apprentice & speculation a possible lover of
da Vinci for over 20 years.
Salai & da Vinci worked together for 25 years & is believed to
be the inspiration behind several of the Renaissance artist's
works. For centuries, people have been speculating about who
modeled for Leonardo Da Vinci's "Mona Lisa." Was it Lisa
Gherardini, the wife of a Florentine merchant? Was it Isabella
of Aragon? Was it the artist himself, as some experts believe?
Or was it, as new research suggests, none of the above.

Suspect Arrested in Gay Activist Murder

A Ugandan police spokesman stated they have arrested a suspect
in the killing of gay activist David Kato who was bludgeoned to
death last week. Vincent Sekatte said late Wednesday that the
suspect made a confession before a magistrate. Sekatte said
police will charge the man with murder “soon”. Of course the
police insist David Kato's killing had nothing to do with his
sexual orientation. Police investigator Ronald Gata said the
suspect is an ex-convict whom Kato employed 3 days before
his death. Kato's killing comes after a year of increased threats
against gays in Uganda, where an appalling anti-gay bill
proposes the death penalty for homosexual acts.

Snow Bound Groundhog Day

In the midst of this monster snow storm the big question is
will Punxsutawney Phil see his shadow? If he does we'll have
6 more weeks of winter. If the little critter doesn't see his
shadow winter will end soon. With this brutal winter bearing
down on us I think he will not see his shadow but winter will
continue its wrath. Just In: Punxsutawney Phil did not see his
shadow, a harbinger of early spring….:)
