Melissa Etheridge: "Say No to Taxes..."

By Charlotte Robinson, November 11, 2008
Singer Melissa Etheridge has finally said what’s on a lot of our minds. She is refusing to pay her California state taxes. If California enforces this ban on gay marriage making our LGBT community second class citizens without the benefits rights & protections of heterosexual citizens why should we pay taxes??? Melissa said: "OK. So Prop 8 has passed. Alright, I get it. 51% of you think I am a second class citizen. Alright, then. So my wife, uh I mean, roommate? Girlfriend? Special lady friend? You are gonna have to help me here because I am not sure what to call her now. Anyways, she & I are not allowed the same right under the state constitution as any other citizen. I am taking that to mean I do not have to pay my state takes because I am not a full citizen. I mean that would just be wrong, to make someone pay taxes & not give them the same rights, sounds like that taxation without representation thing from the history books."

Melissa,
I'm sorry you feel like you are a second class citizen nut your rights have not been taken away. The relationship between you and your significant other is not the same a that of a man and woman who are married. You cannot just throw out thousands of years of religiousx tradition and history just by throwing temper tantrums when you don't get your way.
We are sick of the LGBT groups demanding tolerance but having none for anyone else. Marriage between a man and woman is sacred. You have the same rights, just not the same definition. You're a creative artist - come up with your owan term that uniquiely defines your relationship and leave marriage alone. Jon Stewart argued with Gov. Huckabee that it is "just a word." Well if that os true, why do you need the "word "so much? Come up with you own, get over it and move on!

What really bothers me about people who leave these negative comments is they don't have the guts to leave their Christian names....:)

I happen to side with Melissa on that matter. I am opposed to higher taxes that fund the war machine.

I agree with Charlotte, if your going to post a negative, pregudiced comment cloaked and supposedly backed by religeous pomposity, at least have the courage to post with your moniker. I am a native Californian, now from Washington State, have no desire to return to my suposed libral state. Not really proud anymore to be a native. Why can't we all just live and let live, be happy together, in our diversity, the way I believe God/Goddess meant us to be?
