Night Out Comedy Fundraising Event

Family Equality is hosting a night of comedy on the evening of Saturday November 8th at Nya Studios West in Los Angeles, CA to raise critical funds that will fuel their mission. They will be honoring Tig Notaro & Stephanie Allynne with the Family Equality Visibility Award. Tig Notaro is an Emmy & Grammy nominated stand-up comedian, actor (The Morning Show, Star Trek: Discovery), co-director (Am I OK?), New York Times best-selling author (I’m Just a Person), producer (Come See Me in the Good Light) & radio contributor (NPR), named by Rolling Stone as one of the “50 best stand-up comics of all time.” Stephanie Allynne is an Emmy-nominated director (Hello Again), co-director & producer (Am I OK?), actor (The L Word: Generation Q, One Mississippi, Grey’s Anatomy, The Mindy Project, Twin Peaks) & writer (One Mississippi). Next she will be starring in Marc Forster’s Anxious People. Tig & Stephanie are married & live in Los Angeles with their children. They will be presented with the Visibility Award by Glennon Doyle & Abby Wambach. Alec Mapa & Jamison Hebert will receive the Murray/Reese Family Award present by Lauren Weedman. The comedy lineup will include Monét X Change, Solomon Georgio, Bryan Safi, Brendan Scannell, Tien Tran & Mo Welch plus a special guest set at the end of the night. Family Equality is the only national organization dedicated to protecting & advancing the freedoms of all LGBTQ families through bold advocacy, transformative education, & powerful community building. Fenway Health Gala Fundraising Event

The Fenway Gala takes place Friday November 14th at the SoWa Power Station in Boston, MA from 6P to 9P. This is more than a night of celebration it’s a vital source of support for Fenway Health’s mission to provide lifesaving care, advance groundbreaking research & educate healthcare staff across the US & beyond in how to care for our community. Sports Legend Diana Nyad Florida Event

Stonewall National Museum, Archives & Library (SNMAL) in Fort Lauderdale, FL is kicking off November with a visit from Diana Nyad best known for her historic swim from Cuba to Key West. Nyad will be the featured guest at a dinner on November 5th when SNMAL will announce a new project celebrating LGBTQ athletes, sports history & culture with the new national Nyad LGBTQ Sports Archive. I first met Diana years ago in NYC when she was with ABC Sports & I was with CBS Sports. Last Spring we were reacquainted at Radcliff Day honoring Jodi Foster. Robert Kesten, Stonewall Museum’s President & CEO stated, “Each day we face new challenges, many of which are unprecedented in their cruelty. However, each morning we wake up ready to take on the fight of the day & continue working to make this a better world for all of us. Our new archive bearing Diana's name will be about success in sports, advocacy & to Diana's iconic fighting spirit. Like Nyad, no one in our community can afford to give up on the belief that a better more accepting world is possible. That is as much a part of our mission at Stonewall as protecting our archives & sharing our community's history.” The new Nyad archive will include invaluable contributions from leading professional & amateur sports figures who have changed sports for the better eliminating the false stigmas about our community. Manhattan Comedy School 25th Year

The Manhattan Comedy School (MCS) NYC’s leading school for stand-up comedy announced a very special show to celebrate its 25th Anniversary on Monday November 24th at Gotham Comedy Club 208 West 23rd Street, NYC at 7P. This one-night-only event will bring together a hilarious lineup of past & present students, a few of our hilarious instructors & some exciting surprise guests for an unforgettable evening of laughter & celebration. Carly Ozard Chain of Love Special Event

Carly Ozard presents 2 fabulous events One Night Only on Sunday November 2nd at GRNHS Gallery + Studio in San Francisco, CA. Starting with Carly Ozard & Friends “Chain of Love” (A Broadway Album) Holiday Release Party & Concert under musical direction by Baker Peeples kicks off at 4P for a 70-minute show with a live band including Peeples on piano & violin, Daniel Fabricant on bass & Jerry Herrera on cajon. Bicoastal entertainer Carly Ozard a lifelong musical theater enthusiast is proud to be releasing her new CD “Chain of Love” (A Broadway Album) that celebrates the singer’s deep love for showtunes from classics, unknowns & fiascos. Featuring rarely-heard gems like "Chain of Love" from The Grass Harp a 1971 musical that ran just 7 performances based on Truman Capote’s novel the album showcases works by legendary composers including Kander & Ebb, Stephen Sondheim, Jerry Herman, Irving Berlin & Charles Strouse. A number of songs are reimagined with new arrangements by Ozard herself. Each track is paired with personal stories from her life in NYC & SF including encounters with Broadway stars & casting directors. The album produced by Leo Frappier also highlights vocal talents from the Bay Area’s Lamplighters Music Theater now in its 78rd year performing Gilbert & Sullivan titles in duets, trios & including a full ensemble number. It's a heartfelt tribute to musical theater & an invitation to become a link in the "Chain of Love.” Then the show will be followed by the movie screening of the cult-classic “Hedwig & The Angry Inch” at 8P including a singalong with Carly Ozard & friends with live music, trivia & prizes.

Bayard Rustin At The Crossroads Exhibit

Stonewall National Museum, Archives & Library (SNMAL) in partnership with the Bayard Rustin Center for Social Justice are presenting the ‘Bayard Rustin at the Crossroads’ exhibit kicking off with an opening reception on November 14th at the Hester & Ross Galleries with the exhibit running until January 2nd. Robert Kesten, SNMAL President & CEO stated, “We need to remember those who fought for those inalienable rights decades ago as we harness the hope they had for the future. This exhibit will be a testament to that hope, while sharing the legacy of Bayard Rustin. Rustin left behind an example of courage, creativity & a pathway to the world we continue to hope for.” Rustin played a pivotal role in shaping the modern civil rights movement. He was instrumental in the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs & Freedom, one of the largest political rallies in U.S. history where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech. Inspired by his Quaker upbringing & work with pacifist organizations Rustin was deeply committed to nonviolent resistance even mentoring King & helping establish the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. The exhibit delves into Rustin’s story & how he overcame adversity attacking multiple parts of his identity & the lessons we all should take from his experiences. Rustin was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Obama in 2013 cementing his legacy as one of the most important & ignored figures in American history. The Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC) 28th annual party for prevention “Halloween Bash for a Cause: Celebrating Community & Supporting Prevention” takes place Saturday October 25th at Club Café in Boston, MA from 6P to 11P with costumes optional. This year MBCC is honoring Cambridge Mayor E. Denise Simmons for her trailblazing leadership & longtime community service during the VIP Party from 6P to 8P. Cheryl Osimo, MBCC's Executive Director stated, "It’s hard to believe the 28th Annual Lesbians & Friends LGBTQIA+ Dance is almost here. For nearly three decades, this event has brought people together in celebration, solidarity & a shared commitment to prevention during Breast Cancer Prevention Month. We are deeply honored to recognize Mayor Denise Simmons -- longtime Cambridge mayor & the first African American openly lesbian mayor in the United States -- for her unwavering commitment to community & support of MBCC. Funds raised from the event helps support MBCC’s education programs designed to provide our communities with vital health information on ways to reduce exposure to toxic chemicals in the products they use & in the environments in which they live, learn & work. Witchy Ways Casts A Halloween Spell

Just in time for Halloween writer/director Jane Clark unveils her latest feature film “Witchy Ways” a supernatural romance that blends humor, love & magic. Redefining the witch genre through a contemporary lens the film celebrates the belief that real magic lives in love & authenticity. Clark continues her brilliant tradition of emotionally bold resonant storytelling that bridges genre & identity. We talked to Jane back in 2015 about her previous work the cult favorite “Crazy Bitches” & the acclaimed “Elena Undone” have established her as a distinctive voice in independent cinema. Jane stated, “I wanted to create a supernatural romance where queer women aren’t just included but celebrated. This is a story about love, courage & believing in something greater than ourselves.” The film is about Eve (Diora Baird) a high-powered brand manager who retreats to her late mother’s cottage a place long rumored to be magical. There she meets Danni (Marem Hassler) an enchanting neighbor who comes from a long line of witches. What begins as a reluctant friendship deepens into a romantic connection that challenges Eve’s sense of logic & control. When Danni’s home & legacy are threatened by a vengeful neighbor Eve must decide whether to remain grounded in the world she knows or step fully into one of magic, love & possibility. Women’s Week Celebrates 41 Years

Women’s Week is celebrating its 41st anniversary in Provincetown now through October 19th with fabulous must-attend events. There will be over 300 individual events during the 2025 line-up from the numerous venues, performers, producers, organizations, artists, authors, tour operators & individuals who will be hosting events all week on for Women’s Week. Some of the highlights include a Conversation with Janis Ian on October 17th at Town Hall 260 Commercial Street at 2P where you can spend the afternoon with the legendary singer-songwriter whose music has defined generations. This special program will feature an intimate live interview & an audience Q&A offering insight into Janis’s music, her activism & her remarkable life journey. Then on Saturday on October 19th comedian Kate Clinton will perform “Afternoon Delight” at Town Hall for a 3P show of unforgettable laughter, wit & unapologetic humor. There will also be Cris Williamson’s 50th Anniversary of The Changer & The Changed album concert & Suede will be part of the Town Hall Series. Comics, singers, musicians come to Ptown to delight & entertain attendees including Zoe Lewis, Suzanne Westenhoefer, Vickie Shaw, Melissa Crispo, BETTY, Jennie McNulty, Mimi Gonzalez & Judy Gold among others. Provincetown has hosted this festival in October in celebration of Women sponsored by the Women Innkeepers that turns this vibrant seaside haven at the tip of Cape Cod into a Women’s Festival that has over 150 different events for every taste & interest. Whether it’s getting to see the best performers & comics in our LGBTQ culture today, attending a great workshop, seeing a Women At Waters Edge Film or just walking down Commercial Street for fabulous shopping or restaurant cuisine there’s something for everyone in Provincetown during Women’s Week.

Elizabeth Taylor Passion Strives (AUDIO)

This week I talked with Tim Mendelson who was the longtime executive assistant to legendary actress Elizabeth Taylor & is currently a trustee & officer of The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation (ETAF). Tim worked fulltime for Taylor from the early 1990s until her death in 2011 beginning as a freelance production assistant in 1984 but after assisting with Taylor's "White Diamonds" perfume tour in 1991 she hired him as her secretary. He eventually became her executive assistant & worked with her closely on her charitable endeavors including her fight against AIDS. Mendelson & Taylor developed a close & trusting relationship over their decades together. As a trustee of her estate & The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation he continues Taylor's humanitarian work. Taylor co-founded The Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR) in 1985 & The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation (ETAF) in 1991. Tim personally witnessed Elizabeth’s passionate drive to help people affected by HIV/AIDS with an immediacy that she felt was crucial for this fight. Currently Tim remains dedicated to keeping Elizabeth’s voice & spirit pre-eminent in HIV/AIDS activism for the purpose of ensuring it is at the forefront of current actions concerning this global pandemic. Mendelson has appeared in documentaries related to Elizabeth Taylor including the fabulous film “Elizabeth Taylor: The Lost Tapes” (2024) on MAX. With thousands of Gen Z & Gen Alpha fans newly discovering Elizabeth through Taylor Swift’s new album it’s a perfect time to highlight what this fierce ally brought to our LGBTQ community through her lifetime. I talked to Tim about what he would like to accomplish with Elizabeth Taylor’s legacy & his spin on our LGBTQ issues. LISTEN

Partner organizations this season include New York State Youth Leadership Council, Mothers & Daughters & volunteers from the American Cancer Society all dedicated to driving grassroots impact through art. National Coming Out Day 37th Year

Jean O’Leary & Dr. Robert Eichberg organized the first National Coming Out Day on October 11th in 1988 & artist Keith Haring who I had the pleasure of meeting contributed his 1988 iconic image. On National Coming Out Day in Boston we’re attending a celebration at Boston City Hall Plaza. Remember that coming out isn’t just a moment it’s a story, your story. In 1993 the National Coming Out Day org merged with HRC then known as the Human Rights Campaign Fund which created the National Coming Out Project in 1996. Kelley Robinson HRC President stated, “Everyone deserves the freedom to live authentically & unapologetically. Coming out to one’s community, family, friends & loved ones should be a joyous event, a recognition that a person is entering a new chapter in their life & in their journey of self-discovery. At a moment when the nation’s most powerful people long for a future that dims our light & forces us back into the closet, coming out is also an act of defiance. But for too many others, coming out is still challenging, difficult & even unsafe. That’s why those of us who are able to be ourselves publicly must continue to do so, to live loudly & proudly, so we can create a world where all people can be free–no matter what.” National Coming Out Day (NCOD) is marked each year on October 11th exists to celebrate those who are living their truths as members of our LGBTQ community. HRC & the HRC Foundation build power through partnerships, storytelling & action working to create a future rooted in equity, freedom & belonging for all LGBTQ people.

Pink Martini All Stars American Tour

Pink Martini is touring America now through December featuring the debut of the Pink Martini All-Stars led with the mastery of Thomas Lauderdale & powerhouse singers from the group’s extended musical family. The All-Stars include longtime Pink Martini collaborators & guest vocalists Ari Shapiro, Edna Vazquez, Jimmie Herrod & on occasion Massachusetts native Storm Large each bringing their own signature sound & show-stopping presence to the stage. Catch them this week in New England October 8th at Shalin Lui Performance Center in Rockport, MA, October 10th Hanover Theatre in Worcester, MA, October 11th at The Park Theatre in Cranston, RI & on October 12th at Cary Hall in Lexington, MA where OUTTAKE MEDIA will attend. Storm Large stated, “New England, perfect for spooky season, my favorite time of year, love it. I played with Pink Martini years ago in Rhode Island & played there with my own band, but it's been a while, so it'll be nice to get back. It's just joyful, fun music. Then they’ll be returning to the West Coast & Texas before concluding in Chicago, IL December 17th. Following that they’ll embark on a string of “Holiday Shows” in December. Other vocalist & instrumentalists include Timothy Nishimoto (percussion), Antonis Andreou (trombone), Thomas Barber (trumpet), Dan Faehnle (guitar), Phil Baker (double bass), Miguel Bernal (percussion), Anthony Jones (drums), Nicholas Crosa (violin) & of course Thomas Lauderdale (piano).

Faith Leaders Address Healthcare Crisis

Members of MCAN a faith & values grassroots org are calling on elected leaders to choose long-term justice over short-term fixes addressing the government shutdown. Rev. Emmanuel Daphnis of Restoration Community Church stated, “While we grieve the harm a shutdown causes for workers, families & communities, we know from our scriptures & traditions that choosing what is expedient over what is just leads to deeper suffering. We cannot accept a budget that locks in devastating cuts from the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill, stripping resources from our schools, health care, housing & the safety net that so many of our families depend on.” Rev. Nathan Ives added, “We are encouraged by senators & legislators who are boldly standing with the millions who would be devastated by cuts to health insurance tax credits. No one welcomes a shutdown, but keeping the government open by forcing huge hikes in health insurance premiums on our most vulnerable is not liberty & justice for all.” Janine Carreiro-Young, Co-Executive Director of MCAN concluded, “Scripture calls us to care for the widow, the orphan & the stranger — those most vulnerable among us. Passing a budget that sacrifices their wellbeing for political gain is nothing less than a moral failure. Pennsylvania Stands Up For Healthcare

In our series of community leaders addressing the government shutdown Pennsylvania Stands Up responds to Trump & Congress’s failed attempt to force Democrats to vote to finance fascism & the theft of American taxpayers money on behalf of corporations & billionaires. Carrie Santoro, Pennsylvania Stands Up Executive Director stated, “No blank checks to pay for BS. Working folks are getting squeezed left & right by rising rent, utility bills & health care costs. We do not want our representatives in Congress writing any blank checks that make our lives worse. The proposal on the table doesn’t make anything Pennsylvanians need cheaper. It doesn’t reopen closed hospitals. It doesn’t return the public dollars that were stolen from us. The deal on the table only gives us stuff we don’t want. We do not want our neighbors abducted. We do not want our peers & elders to have their health care stolen from them. We do not want our families with kids to have their food taken away. Pennsylvanians are facing massive SNAP & health care cuts because the Republicans in our congressional delegation voted for the Big Ugly Budget so their billionaire donor, Jeffrey Yass, could get another tax cut, another mansion & another yacht. Pennsylvanians know that’s not right. We’re organizing in Harrisburg to fight cuts to funding for housing, health care, transit & education. Congress & Trump need to cancel the cuts, lower costs & save our health care.” Pennsylvania Stands Up believes everyone deserves to live with safety & dignity. Maine People’s Alliance On Healthcare

With the federal shutdown Maine People’s Alliance & faith leaders call on Senator Susan Collins to extend premium tax credits for people with marketplace health coverage & stop funding ICE. Amy Halsted, Co-Executive Director of Maine People’s Alliance stated, “There is more than enough for all of us to thrive if billionaires & corporate CEOs don’t steal it. So it’s time for Congress to focus on our needs, not their greed. Rural Mainers are facing the dual threat of losing our health care coverage and our hospitals. Our people & our hospitals were already at risk before congressional Republicans cut $1 trillion in health care funding to give billionaires & big businesses more tax breaks. Our health system is now in code blue. Five hospitals have recently closed their maternity wards. More cuts mean more closures & in January, 20,000 Mainers will lose their health coverage because of H.R.1. – Trump’s ‘One Big Bill.’ Every member of Congress ought to fight to prevent that from happening, especially Senator Collins who holds the pen on these bills. Without access to health care people will die.” Rev. Tara Humphries of Allen Avenue UU Church concluded, “Stripping access to healthcare & funding the forced removal of our neighbors without their constitutional right to due process is immoral. I don’t care what ‘side’ you’re on… Mainers take care of one another. It’s who we are.
