Spark Theatre Festival NYC Returns
By Charlotte Robinson, October 05, 2026
Celebrating 25 years the award-winning Emerging Artists Theatre (EAT) continues its commitment to developing & celebrating new voices with the return of the biannual Spark Theatre Festival NYC that runs now through October 25th at The 28th Street Theatre. For over the next 3 weeks the biannual festival will showcase over 60 new works offering audiences an eclectic mix of new plays, solo performances, storytelling, dance & other original works by emerging & established artists. For more than 3 decades EAT has provided a platform for artists to develop new work & bring fresh voices to the stage. Spark Theatre Festival NYC continues that tradition creating opportunities for writers, performers, directors, choreographers & other theatre artists to experiment, take creative risks & connect with audiences. There will be 34 short & full-length plays presented, 9 solo shows will be showcased & 23 dance pieces performed. Originally launched as the New Works Series the event has grown significantly since its inception doubling in size & expanding to include genres such as dance, music, cabaret, drag, sketch comedy & other boundary-pushing performances. Today the Spark Theatre Festival NYC presents Spring & Fall festivals showcasing over 100 new shows each year & giving more than 400 artists the opportunity to perform new work on stage. The momentum will continue in November with the first annual Spark Musical Theatre Festival NYC featuring presentations of 32 new short & full-length musicals. The inaugural festival will run November 2nd to 22nd also at The 28th Street Theatre (TADA) giving audiences another opportunity to experience new musical theatre works in development.
