Friend’s Landing Reunion Event

If you’re in the New England area this is an event not to be missed. At the peak of its popularity Friend’s Landing was one of New England's largest mixed gay nightclubs. It was very disappointing  for the LGBT community when it closed its doors a few years ago. Now DJ Andrea Stamas is bringing the magic back with Sean Braunstein, owner of Club 313 in Manchester New Hampshire for one night only this Friday August 16th. DJ Andrea Stamas stated, "This event promises to be an absolute blast, seeing old patrons & staff reunited! I am so excited to be a part of it, I will be bringing back some of our favorite music & help rekindle the magic that was Friend's Landing!" Join us for a full night of dancing featuring some of Friend's favorite DJ's including DJ Andrea Stamas along with DJ Jodi & DJ Mike Giller, who were one of many rotating resident DJ's of Friend’s Landing. Let’s us also remember one DJ from Friend’s Landing that will be there in spirit, the fabulous DJ Linda Lowell who passed away last June. Plus there will be the return of Ms Michaels & other surprise guest performers. This is a 21+ event. Get there before 9P & pay no cover. After 9P there will be a $7 cover charge. Positive ID required. Club 313 is located on 93 South Maple Street in Manchester, NH.

Jason Collins Talks With Pistons

We may be close to have the first active openly gay athlete in North America's four traditional major sports leagues. The Detroit Pistons are exploring the possibility of signing free-agent center Jason Collins. Though sources told ESPN that no formal offer has been made Detroit has begun a dialogue with Collins. Jason has continued to work out in his hometown of Los Angeles in hopes of a firm contract offer. Back in late April after Collins came out in Sports Illustrated only six of fourteen teams surveyed that day told ESPN they expected to see Collins in the NBA this season. Collins stated in July, "I look at it, honestly, like any other free agency in the past several years, where I know I have to stay patient & I know that at this point in my career, you remain hopeful that there's a job & an opportunity waiting for you once teams start to fill out their rosters." In the midst the controversy with the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi with Russia’s anti gay laws in place this would be a great step forward in USA major league sports to have an openly gay professional athlete as a role model for our LGBT youth. LGBT Groups Sochi Concerns

InterPride (International Association of Pride Organizers), GLISA (Gay & Lesbian International Sport Association) & ILGA (International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans & Intersex Association) released a joint statement strongly condemning the recent broad clampdown in Russia through a variety of laws, which not only affects LGBT organizations disproportionately through specific anti-gay laws but inevitably extends to other groups & in the end, affects the whole of civil society. They have added their voices to the already overwhelming messages at the Kremlin's abhorrent, homophobic, anti-human rights legislation, especially in light of the upcoming Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, scheduled for February, 2014. They’re concerned for the safety & well being of our LGBT community in Russia & the terror they now face from these barbaric laws recently passed. They are also equally concerned for LGBT people who plan to participate in the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. The International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) issued a statement in relation to the rights of LGBT people during the games & its assurance that it will work to ensure the safety of LGBT athletes, spectators, media & officials attending the Sochi Winter Games. However, they are dismayed at the lack of specificity from the IOC on exactly how they intend to ensure the safety of LGBT people affiliated with the games while in Russia. The IOC has no way to protect them from federal law which outlaws homosexuality.
