GLAAD the global LGBT media advocacy organization has announced it will honor singer, songwriter, record producer & actress Mariah Carey at the 27th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in New York at the Waldorf Astoria New York on May 14th. Academy Award-nominated director Lee Daniels will present Carey with the award. Carey will receive GLAAD’s Ally Award, which is presented to a media figure who has consistently used their platform to support & advance LGBT equality & acceptance. Sarah Kate Ellis
GLAAD President & CEO stated, “Through her music & outspoken support, Mariah Carey has inspired & empowered countless LGBT fans across the globe. She is a longtime ally & friend to the LGBT community who has worked tirelessly to move acceptance & inclusion forward.” Previous GLAAD Media Awards honorees include Elizabeth Taylor, Patti LaBelle, Janet Jackson, Russell Simmons, Cher among others. We previously announced that GLAAD will also honor Robert De Niro with the Excellence in Media Award at the New York ceremony. Emmy Award-winning actress & producer Laverne Cox will host the event. The 27th Annual GLAAD Media Awards recognize & honor media for their fair, accurate & inclusive representations of the LGBT community & the issues that affect their lives. The GLAAD Media Awards also fund GLAAD's work to amplify stories from the LGBT community & issues that build support for equality & acceptance. This will be our 8th year covering the GLAAD Media Awards on the Red Carpet in NYC for OUTTAKE VOICES™.
