It's a little bit funny this feeling inside but Elton John & his
husband David Furnish welcomed a baby boy on Dec. 25th.
Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John was born via surrogate
in California, weighing 7 lbs. 15 ozs. & measuring 22 inches long.
The birth comes a year after John & Furnish attempted to adopt
a young Ukrainian boy unsuccessfully. The couple were joined in
a civil partnership ceremony in England in 2005. Together they
produced the upcoming animated film Gnomeo & Juliet, which
will be released on Feb. 11 & features a new track Elton & Lady
Gaga recorded , "Hello, Hello." Congrats to the new Dads!!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!
Exclusive Audio Interview with Kate Clinton
revealing, "2010 The Gay Year in Review" on the
historic repeal of “Don't Ask, Don't Tell” & more
@ OUTTAKE VOICES™
This part is done. President Obama signed the historic legislation
to repeal the 17-year-old "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy banning
our gay & lesbian community from serving openly in the military.
He hailed the bill as one that will "strengthen our national security
& uphold the ideals that our fighting men & women risk their lives
to defend". Obama continued, "I am just overwhelmed. This is a
very good day." Updates to Come...:)

US Defeats Anti-Gay UN Measure
Finally the UN General Assembly on Tuesday voted 93-55 to
put gays & lesbians back on a list of vulnerable minorities who
should be protected from unjustified killings following a major
US-led diplomatic campaign. Last month a mainly Arab &
African-led move had killings over "sexual orientation" taken
off a list of people unfairly targeted, when an biannual resolution
was discussed by a UN rights committee. The US government
said it was "incensed" & launched a major campaign with
European & other nations to get "sexual orientation" killings
put back on the blacklist when the vote came before the full
UN General Assembly.

Religious Allies for LGBT Human Rights
BREAKING: Today, the UN voted in favor of restoring “sexual
orientation” to the UN General Assembly resolution on extra
judicial executions, by a margin of 93-55, with 35 abstentions.
The latest on this obscene UN bill that removes sexual orientation
from UN human rights protections which makes our community
vulnerable to unjustified executions will be addressed today
Dec. 21st at the UN in NYC. Forty national faith leaders &
organizations in support of lesbian, gay, bisexual & transgender
(LGBT) people were convened on December 13 by the Faith
Coalition for LGBT Human Rights. The group, meeting across the
street from the United Nations at the Church Center for the UN,
spoke out strongly against the action of a committee in the UN
that removed gay people from a list of groups protected from
violent targeting & extrajudicial killing. The Coalition expressed
strong support for Susan Rice, the U.S. Ambassador of the United
States to the United Nations, who is expected to propose
reinstatement of sexual orientation to the UN resolution on
December 20. Updates to Come....:)

Winter Solstice Arrives with Lunar Eclipse
HAPPY SOLSTICE!! As the full moon brings in the winter
solstice we experienced a full lunar eclipse at 2:41AM EST.
The winter solstice has not coincided with a total lunar eclipse
since 1638, 372 years ago. This is not only an extremely rare
event but a minor meteor shower also sent a few shooting
stars through the darkened sky during the height of the eclipse.
For the winter-weary, NASA streamed the eclipse live,
so you can still see the moon from an indoor vantage point.
Everyone else brave enough to weather the cold, can howl away.
The solstice marks the darkest day of the year which means as we
enter into winter we grab a little more daylight….:)

Senate Votes to End “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell”
Finally with a 65-31 vote the senate put an end to the "Don't
Ask, Don't Tell" military policy. This is a huge victory in the
repeal of DADT. The bill now moves to the president's desk
for the final vote. If DADT is repealed it means that gays can
finally openly be accepted by the military & could acknowledge
their sexual orientation without the fear of being fired.
President Obama stated, "The Senate has taken an historic step
toward ending a policy that undermines our national security
while violating the very ideals that our brave men & women in
uniform risk their lives to defend." The repeal of DADT will not
go into effect immediately. There will be a 60-day waiting period
as the Pentagon implements new rules. Updates to Come…:)
In this exclusive audio byte Political Satirist Kate Clinton talks
about the repeal.

Smithsonian Gay Bashing
Controversy continues over the action 2 weeks ago by the National
Portrait Gallery which removed a 4 minute video by the late artist
David Wojnarowicz from an exhibit on sexual difference in American
portraiture. The video titled A Fire in My Belly was removed from the
Hide/Seek: Difference & Desire in American Portraiture exhibit after
strong protests from Catholic League president William Donahue &
the office of incoming House Speaker John Boehner over a portrayal
in it of a small crucifix covered with ants. Donahue called it "hate
speech." Last Thursday, the Washington Post reported that James T.
Bartlett, a member of the Museum's advisory panel, resigned over the
decision to remove the video. Now The Andy Warhol Foundation on
Monday threatened to end funding to the Smithsonian Institution
unless it restores a piece of controversial video art that was pulled
from a National Portrait Gallery exhibition. Updates to Come…:)
