There’s a fabulous LGBTQ fundraising event in NYC on Saturday July 11th for I'm From Driftwood, the organization that archives first-person stories shared by LGBTQ people around the world to increase empathy, understanding, acceptance & a sense of belonging.
Nathan Manske Executive Director of I’m From Driftwood stated, “I was inspired to create I’m From Driftwood after seeing a photograph of Harvey Milk, one of the first openly gay elected officials in the United States, riding on the hood of a car and holding a sign that read, ‘I’m From Woodmere, N.Y.’ Since launching I’m From Driftwood in March, 2009, people all over the world have shared stories from their lives. The result is an open, honest & genuine look into what it’s like to be LGBTQ throughout the world. The expanding, inclusive archive of stories not only preserves our history, but reminds people that they’re part of a larger community & never truly alone.” Stuart Milk Harvey Milk’s nephew added, “Terrific work & vital messaging for a global community to become connected! Thank you for all your work & for mentioning that my uncle was an inspiration for this project. Harvey somewhere is smiling broadly about that!” The 5th Annual I'm From Driftwood Summer BBQ takes place on Saturday, July 11th from 3:00P to 8:00P at Hartley House 413 W. 46th Street between 9th & 10th Avenue in NYC.
Tickets are $75 & guests receive a curated meal from chef Andy Baraghani, open bar, live jazz music, a photo booth courtesy of dirty sugar photography, as well as raffle prizes & a silent auction.
