PFLAG Launches “Read With Love”
By Charlotte Robinson, March 03, 2022
PFLAG the first & largest organization for LGBTQ people, their parents, families & allies in the U.S. have launched “Read With Love” a campaign supporting the freedom to learn for all students no matter their race, genders or zip code. This comes as Texas lawmakers have created a ban list of 850 targeted books which two-thirds are LGBTQ related & 9 states have passed laws restricting teachers from including accurate information in schools related to race, sex, gender & LGBTQ people. Jean-Marie Navetta, Director of Learning & Inclusion for PFLAG National stated, “Defending students’ ability to learn about history, science, human development & even the topics that interest them should not be an issue, but lately, it has become a necessity, especially for families of LGBTQ+ students. ‘Read With Love’ is about offering an entry point for community members who are appalled by efforts to censor what our kids learn. It’s about empowering youth with tools to think critically. It’s about doing what PFLAGers do best: we lead with love. And when you read with love, you can make a difference.” PFLAG's “Read With Love” campaign offers options to engage proactively to support the freedom to learn for all students in their community. From learning how to organize locally to donating inclusive, accurate & honest materials to libraries & schools there are many different ways for individuals & organizations to participate. Campaign partners include The Ally Coalition, Red Wine & Blue & the Book Ban Busters Coalition. For More Info…
