Victory For Our LGBT Community

Our LGBT community celebrated an overwhelming victory in this crucial election. President Obama has been reelected, Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin has been elected the first Gay U.S. Senator & voters in Maine & Maryland passed marriage equality for gay & lesbian couples, which is the first time that voters in any state voted in favor of gay marriage. It also appears that gay marriage has passed in Washington State but still too close to call & in Minnesota the constitutional amendment to ban marriage equality appears to be defeated. Herndon Graddick President of GLAAD stated, "Visibility & progress for LGBT people have grown under President Obama & now that momentum must continue. LGBT people deserve full equality in every aspect of American life & President Obama, in his second term, should take every concrete step within his power to make it so." In his acceptance speech Obama stated, “America, I believe we can build on the progress we've made and continue to fight for new jobs & new opportunity & new security for the middle class. I believe we can keep the promise of our founders, the idea that if you're willing to work hard, it doesn't matter who you are or where you come from or what you look like or who you love. It doesn't matter whether you're black or white or Hispanic or Asian or Native American or young or old or rich or poor, able, disabled, gay or straight, you can make it here in America if you're willing to try….”

Election Day For LGBT US Citizens

Update: OBAMA WINS!! :)

This is a crucial election for our LGBT community & for women in this country. Gay marriage is on the ballot in 4 states Maine, Maryland, Minnesota & Washington. If you believe in Democracy & the US Constitution that we are all created equal then you must vote for President Obama. The first votes have been counted in Dixville Notch, New Hampshire & it was a tie. Obama & Romney both received 5 votes. The result was surprising since the town has 2 registered Democrats, 3 Republicans & 5 independents. Dick Erwin Town Clerk of Dixville stated, "Considering the way things are polling around the country, we may have been the first tie of the day. Keep your eyes on the news reports because it's going to be a wild ride." This is just a heads-up on how important it is to get out & vote today. If you are eligible to vote make sure that you know where to find your polling place, the open/close times, who's running for office in your area & what ballot initiatives might be on your particular ballot. Google & the New Organizing Institute have created a really cool site to help us all do that, so we’re passing it on to you. All you have to do is enter your address on the left side & it will provide you where to vote, the hours & all the information about your particular ballot on the right. So there’s no excuse! Romney Will Ruin America

Just one day before the election & the polling is so tight no one can call this presidential race. In the GOP corner we have power hungry, anti gay, anti women & anti middle class Mitt Romney. In Massachusetts when he was governor we referred to him as “Mitler”. We know that he will say anything & do anything to get elected as he has proven already throughout this campaign. If he becomes President those who voted for him will have to bear the responsibility of the darkest days this country has ever seen. Even though we can say “we told you so…” Arline Isaacson Co-Chair of the Massachusetts Gay & Lesbian Political Caucus stated, “If Romney wins, the LGBT community will have a committed opponent of equality in the White House. Gains we've won over the last few years would be erased or diluted. We can't afford to let that happen. Romney would appoint conservative anti-choice & anti-gay Supreme Court justices who would roll back the clock on LGBT rights and on Roe v Wade. Romney would oppose the repeal of DOMA in Congress & defend DOMA before the Supreme Court. Programs for our youth, our seniors & AIDS/HIV would be slashed or eliminated. Moves to garner benefits for LGBT service men & women in the military would end precipitously. Federal legislation to bring LGBTs closer to full equality would be stopped dead in its tracks.” In the Dems corner we have Barack Obama who’s pro gay, pro choice, pro women & pro middle class. He’s taken this country from the mess it was in from the Bush administration & turned it around so we can actually see the light at the end of the tunnel. When you vote tomorrow, vote for Obama & move towards the light not the darkness. Updates to Come…:)

Anti Gay Marriage Ads Lie

This has to be the most over saturation of campaign ads we’ve ever experienced. Since the deregulation of the FCC years ago & the endless amount of spending, especially the new ads that come from groups that have no association with the candidates, we’re bombarded with lies. Then we have to sit through the distortions that come from the Romney camp. My TV remote mute button is almost worn out. Since we’re based in Massachusetts where gay marriage has been legal for over eight years we don’t have to deal with the lies & deceptions that are being shown in the four states where gay marriage is on the ballot. GLAAD & Equality Matters have called on the media to expose the anti gay, anti equality ads in Maine, Maryland, Minnesota & Washington.
So here are some of the facts: Marriage equality won't affect school curricula, despite what the ads repeatedly claim. The Catholic adoption agencies named in the ads voluntarily ended their services, they were "not forced" to shut down. The lawsuits the ads talk about were filed over violations of non-discrimination laws and had nothing to do with marriage equality. The New Jersey church cited in those ads was able to keep its tax exemption, even though it denied services to gay couples.

LGBT Reproductive Options (AUDIO)

For our LGBT community who are interested in becoming parents there’s an Open House on Nov 7th for Lesbian, Gay, Transgender & Gender Queer family building options at the Reproductive Science Center (RSC) of New England this Wednesday at 5:30 PM in Lexington, MA. The event is free but registration is required. This is specifically for members of our LGBTQ community who want to become parents of their own biologically related children. This is an opportunity to learn about the variety of assisted reproductive services available for gay male & lesbian couples. There will also be fertility preservation consultations & services for transgender & gender queer individuals. The event includes a tour of RSC’s IUI & IVF center & Q&A time with Dr. Samuel Pang, RSC New England Medical Director. Dr. Pang is a highly regarded authority on providing assisted reproductive medicine services for the LGBTQ community. He was the first Reproductive Endocrinologist in New England, for example, to provide donor egg & gestational surrogacy for a gay male couple. A Board certified Reproductive Endocrinologist, Dr. Pang recently presented LGBT Family Building at the national conference of the Gay & Lesbian Medical Association. MFA Boston LGBT Mini Film Fest

The Boston LGBT Film Festival is presenting the "Best of the Festival" screenings this weekend Nov. 2nd through Nov. 4th at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Starting tonight Nov. 2nd at 7P is the Boston Premiere of the award winning film ELLIOT LOVES winner of the Audience Choice Award at the 2012 Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival. ELLIOT LOVES depicts the joys, sorrows & hopes of a young Dominican-American named Elliot. Director Terracino will be in attendance for a Q & A following the movie. On Saturday afternoon Nov. 3rd the short FOR SPACIOUS SKY will be shown at 1P with director Coy Middlebrook present to be followed by the powerful documentary QUESTION ONE about the battle for gay marriage in Maine. Both films deal timely with the politics of change & as we move towards the election on Tuesday, Nov 6th. Then CLOUDBURST that statrs Olympia Dukakis will be presented at 3P, which was one of the most popular films from the 2012 festival. On Sunday at 1P on Nov 4th the "Best of Festival Shorts" will be presented followed by FACING MIRRORS (AYNEHAYE ROOBEROO) at 3P. The feature film is about Rana & Adineh, two women of very different backgrounds & social class are accidentally brought together to share a journey. Marriage Equality USA (MEUSA) has announced that starting November 3rd they’re partnering with the ballot gay marriage campaigns in Washington, Maryland, Minnesota & Maine in launching the “Phone from Home” program through Election Day together with over 50 partners from their Campaign for 20 Million More.
