Gay as the 4th of July

Update:USA Gay Marriage Federal Rights in 2013
Of course this expression has nothing to do with our LGBT community except the fact that we remain second class citizens for July 4th 2011. We’re just the last Americans trying to achieve equality in our own country. So the day is bittersweet. We’ll be at the usual family celebrations of fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games, family reunions, political speeches & ceremonies. Some of us will be there with our families & kids. In addition there will various circuit parties in Provincetown, Fire Island & other known watering holes for our traditional fun celebrations. So when will it be apparent to our government that the Declaration of Independence includes all Americans? It’s interesting that we broke away from the British who provide federal rights & protections for all their citizens including their LGBT community.....:)

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal". These are the words that our nation was built on, yet it seems that they are only applied to a select few. Why is it that in this age that we are not able to get past our differences and learn to accept each other as equals? While we have given equal rights to virtually every group of people in America, gays are still regarded as inferior. There is perhaps no group more universally oppressed than the LGBT community, the subject of hate crimes and humiliation.

The word gay is now used as an insult, and the term “that’s so gay!” is used to describe something negative. If all men are created equal, then why are gays only allowed to marry in 6 states (Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, Iowa, New York & in the District of Columbia.) The declaration of independence ensues all people the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and yet the LGBT community has had all three of these rights violated. It is appalling that gays are still being victimized and that their rights have become a political issue.
