We caught up with Sarah Kate Ellis the CEO & President of GLAAD at the GLAAD Media Awards in NYC last May. Though we have had great relationship with all the GLAAD leaders since we launched our LGBT New Network in 2007 Ellis brings something special to the table. Sarah Kate Ellis stated, “During my first eight months at GLAAD we worked tirelessly to end discrimination in iconic American institutions like NYC's St. Patrick’s Day Parade; to shape the narrative around the violence facing LGBT people in Russia & Uganda; to share stories like those of Texas dads Jason & Joe; to provoke dialogue around athletes who are changing the game, like Michael Sam & to expand gender options on social media sites like Facebook. We are winning legal & legislative battles across the nation faster than we are winning hearts & minds; this cultural gap is where GLAAD is focusing our work.” GLAAD has also kicked off some new programs to move our LGBT community forward. The programs include their Southern Stories campaign, Global Voices, Helping Engage Youth (HEY), Trans Issues, Sports Work & Spanish Language & Latino Media. Listen to Sarah Kate Ellis talk about these programs & more on the Red Carpet at the 2014 GLAAD Media Awards in NYC:
