About Me

Boston Area LGBT Out in Israel Month

By Charlotte Robinson, November 01, 2011
This is a fabulous global concept. Throughout the month of November advocacy organizations in & around Boston are joining together along with politicians, filmmakers, artists, musicians, students & other activists to celebrate the vibrant LGBT communities in Israel & Massachusetts. 'Out in Israel Month' is a program of education & celebration. Organizers aim to educate about the status of civil rights for LGBT Israeli citizens, hard-fought over the years, & exchange ideas about our LGBT community & culture in both Israel & Massachusetts. Shai Bazak, Consul General of Israel to New England, said, “Israel has worked hard to ensure equality for all its citizens. We have, as a society, embraced our LGBT citizens & have ensured that they will not be discriminated against on the basis of their sexual orientation.” 'Out in Israel Month' is a campaign launched by the Consulate General of Israel to New England & co-sponsored by the American Jewish Committee, Combined Jewish Philanthropies, the Jewish Communities Relations Council, the Israel Campus Roundtable & the Boston LGBT Film Festival. The month is also supported by the David Project, GLAD (Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defendants), as well as StandWithUs.

The Consulate General of Israel to New England, in collaboration with our community partners, is very excited to be hosting Out in Israel Month this November to highlight the journeys and achievements that the LGBTQ community in Israel has experienced. Both being worldwide leaders in gay rights, it seemed like a fitting connection to highlight between Massachusetts and Israel. Through film screenings, Q&A sessions, visits from Israeli celebrities and activists and many more activities, we hope to build awareness, share ideas, inspire and strengthen the LGBTQ communities in both Boston and Israel.
