LGBTQ Leaders React To Trump Verdict

By Charlotte Robinson, May 31, 2024

After weeks of high court drama ex-president Donald Trump has been found guilty on all 34 felony counts in the New York election interference case. Now we all get to await his July 11th sentencing & watch how all this will effect the November 5th presidential election. A few statements from our LGBTQ orgs I want to pass on to our global LGBTQ audience. Kelley Robinson Human Rights Campaign President stated, “The twice-impeached, forever disgraced former President of the United States has now been convicted of 34 felony counts by a jury of his peers. Today’s conviction shows clearly that no one is above the law & now, we must commit to showing up in November & ensuring that Trump doesn’t make his way from the courthouse back to the White House.” Sarah Kate Ellis, GLAAD President & CEO concluded, “The verdict underlines that no one is above the law & that election interference is a serious crime that harms every American, including & especially vulnerable people whose voices should be heard & whose votes should be counted. The trial detailed how Donald Trump lied & schemed to get elected. In four horrific years in office he stripped LGBTQ Americans, all women & others of our essential human rights, then lied about losing the 2020 election & encouraged a deadly riot at the Capitol to overturn it. Donald Trump is now a twice convicted, twice impeached, serial liar & sexual abuser who has always seen the presidency as a scam to enrich & protect himself. Today the jury emphatically said Trump is guilty as charged. Voters everywhere should follow the jury’s lead & continue to hold him accountable for his crimes, anti-American behavior & rhetoric.”
